In order to ensure proper and effective organization of education at the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted the provisions of the “Temporary Regulations on Departments of Higher Educational Institutions” approved by Order No. 595 of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated October 11, 1994, decision of the Academic Council of the Academy dated September 14, 2018 (Protocol 1) and the decree of the vice-rector for Academic and Scientific Work Guided by the official letter of T. P. Taghi -zade dated September 12, 2018 No. ds-152, from October 01, 2018, the Department of Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation was organized and began its activity.

The teaching staff working at the Department of Sports medicine and rehabilitation consists of local and foreign specialists with high basic education and experience of scientific and pedagogical activity. The department employs 2 professors, 1 honorary teacher, 14 PhDs, 9 associate professors, 9 senior teachers, 24 teachers. The department teaches medical and rehabilitation disciplines to students of the faculties of Mass applied sports, Coaching, Physical education and pre-conscription training of young people, Sports Medicine and management. The department includes Kinesiology, Physiotherapy, Biomechanics, Sports Medicine and Hygiene, Prevention and rehabilitation of injuries in sports, etc. the teaching of such subjects is carried out. In order to train specialists in accordance with the requirements of the labor market at the bachelor's and master's degrees, to develop personnel potential, to achieve achievements in the field of scientific research, seminars, meetings, professional development programs are organized at the Department. The Department cooperates with foreign rehabilitation centers as UK UCL İSEH, NİSMR, GMSERAin the field of practice.
